Duncan Keith — A Full Circle Moment
The Idea
This piece started with Duncan Keith’s Hall of Fame induction. I knew I wanted to create a painting that captured his legacy—not just as a player, but as one of the most iconic figures in Chicago Blackhawks history.
When I found out he was scheduled to be in Chicago for an autograph signing, I decided I would create the painting and have him sign it.
The Setback
The night before the signing, the event was canceled and postponed.
At first, I was upset. I had already finished the painting and built this plan around that moment. But I was already going to the Blackhawks game that same night and it just so happened to be Duncan Keith bobblehead night, with players from the 2010–2015 teams all in town.
I knew he would be in the building.
The Chase
I decided to bring the painting with me to the United Center. I asked security if I could bring it in and I wasn’t planning on taking no for an answer.
Once I was inside, I was walking around the arena with the painting, trying to figure out how I could find him and show him my painting.
After the first period, my cousin called me:
“Keith is here. I see him—get over to section 114.”
I immediately made my way over. There were crowds of people trying to get autographs, and I could see former Blackhawks players signing for fans—but I still hadn’t seen Keith.
Security started clearing people out of the section, but I stayed. There were fans not letting me get through to get closer to the suite. I found another way around and got closer to the suite where he was.
The Moment
At that point, I lifted up the painting—hoping he would see it.
And he did.
Duncan Keith looked at the painting, came down, and said,
“That’s amazing—I’m signing that.”
I handed him the painting, and he signed it.
What It Meant
That moment changed everything for me.
It wasn’t just about getting a signature—it was about creating something meaningful and having it recognized by the person it represents.
It was a reminder that if I’m willing to go all in on my work—take risks, put myself out there, and trust what I’m creating—those moments can happen.
After the Moment
I shared the video of him signing the painting on Instagram, and it reached over 50,000 views. Duncan Keith even liked the video himself—bringing the entire experience full circle.
This piece represents more than just a player—it represents a moment of belief, persistence, and the connection between the artist and the athlete.
